Sussex High School (Phase I), Sussex County, VA
Served as Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector for this 116,536 square foot school to accommodate 600 students. This new high school sits adjacent to the old high school, for which our firm designed renovations, during Phase II, into a middle school.
A traditional design was chosen for the building, as the residents wanted their new school to reflect the historical significance of their community and the nearby colonial-styled buildings of the courthouse complex. The building is state-of-the-art in both technology and fire safety, and features a gymnasium, cafeteria and 600 seat auditorium designed for community use. The building design is a single-story, slab-on-grade with spread footings. It has a sloped roof and modern fire protection system.
