Canon IRT Expansion, Gloucester, VA

Canon Industrial Resource Technologies, Inc. (IRT) Expansion, Gloucester, VA

Our firm served as the Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector for this 76,460 square foot conventional framed building addition.  The IRT portion of the facility recycles toner cartridges and reclaims cartridge materials, reflecting Canon’s focus on environmental management.

The existing building remained operational throughout the construction process.  The addition included a shipping and receiving office, mechanical room, electrical room, new staff toilets with locker rooms and shower facilities, new break rooms (smoking and non-smoking) and a dust collection room. A 5,600 square foot mechanical mezzanine was provided above the break room/toilet room area and a 1,800 square foot mechanical mezzanine was provided above the mechanical room.

A pre-fabricated clean room was installed in the addition to replace the existing clean room that was demolished. The existing entrance lobby was demolished and replaced with a larger updated lobby with conference rooms and toilet facility. The existing office and break room areas were renovated to provide additional office space and conference rooms.
