Norfolk Fire-Rescue Station #12
Completed in 2018, Norfolk's Fire-Rescue Station #12 is the first in the city that provides private sleeping quarters for each firefighter.
Speight Marshall Francis served as Structural Engineer of Record and Agent 1 Special Inspector for a new 3-bay, 14,000 sf, single-story fire station for the City of Norfolk. Located at 1655 West Little Creek Road, the new station is sited directly across the street from the former fire station, a historic structure that was transformed into a trendy restaurant. The spaces for the apparatus and for the firefighters are brick veneer and concrete masonry boxes with curved steel bar joist roofs arcing overhead. This design/build project with McKenzie Construction was designed as a "Risk Category IV" structure.
