The $27M Housing Resource Center, completed in 2018, is the first of its kind in South Hampton Roads. The LEED Silver certified facility includes shelter, housing, a health clinic, cafeteria, learning facility, supportive services, and community resources. It’s a one-stop-shop of services for families and individuals experiencing homelessness.  

Speight Marshall Francis provided structural engineering and Agent 1 Special Inspections services for a new 
63,736 square foot short-term shelter for families and singles. Their mission is to provide temporary housing and services to assist families and individuals regain housing stability and self-sufficiency.  The three-story Housing Resource Center features a day center that provides services for the homeless, a gathering location for the Winter Shelter program, toilet/showers and laundry spaces, food services (kitchen and dining facilities), offices and work areas, central reception center, interior courtyard, storage facilities for personal property, daycare and classrooms, and emergency shelter for families and individuals. The City of Virginia Beach developed the facility which is now operated by a third party under contract with the City. Designed using REVIT BIM software.
