Denbigh Community Center
Denbigh Community Center offers affordable recreation options for the residents of Newport News, Virginia.
Speight Marshall Francis served as Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector for this new 52,851 square foot recreation center which features two gymnasiums, a dance room, a school-age (childcare) area, and a teen room with a computer lab, a snack bar, a spray park outside of the main entrance, and several multipurpose rooms that can accommodate groups of any size up to 500 people. A circular rotunda with a skylight welcomes visitors to the main lobby and provides an iconic element for the Denbigh Community Center. In addition to this current phase, the Center has been designed to incorporate a second phase, which will include a natatorium and locker rooms. The client is the City of Newport News, VA. Work was completed in 2012 with a budget of $9.5 million.
