Gilbert Place
As the Structural Engineer of Record for the Gilbert Place mixed-use facility, Speight Marshall Francis showcases its expertise in crafting intelligent and efficient solutions to complex structural challenges. This impressive 235,000+ S.F. facility, completed in 2023, features an array of inviting spaces, including plentiful outdoor areas, a public porch, a rooftop bar venue, and ample parking facilities for visitors and tenants alike.
From the 124-space parking garage on the first level to the 200,000 S.F. of stylishly designed office spaces and 32,000 square feet of retail spaces situated on the subsequent five floors, Gilbert Place has been meticulously designed to meet the unique needs of its tenants and patrons. In addition to the substantial retail and office spaces, the facility also boasts a stunning rooftop terrace amenity of 16,000 S.F., complete with panoramic views of Virginia Tech's sprawling campus and the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains that surround it.
Designed and constructed with a focus on efficiency and practicality, the project was completed using REVIT BIM software, ensuring precision down to the smallest detail. The result is a cohesive facility that flawlessly incorporates an attached 72-space parking deck, as well as all of the retaining walls that are part of the building and covered parking.
Throughout the project, our commitment to innovation, collaboration and practical engineering solutions have been at the forefront of the firm's efforts. By balancing technical expertise with a warm and inviting tone, we are proud to have been a part of creating a one-of-a-kind mixed-use facility that not only revitalizes the surrounding community but also provides its occupants with a stunning and efficient space that supports their various needs.
