Step into a mosaic of history and modern luxury at the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery in downtown Norfolk, VA. Housed in the 1912 Royster Building, meticulously revitalized by the team of Baskerville + Speight Marshall Francis + Clancy & Theys, this 14-story marvel blends historic charm with contemporary opulence.

Originally home to the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority since the 1970s, the Royster Building underwent a transformative journey guided by a feasibility study by Speight Marshall Francis. The study laid the foundation for a structurally feasible and cost-effective conversion into a boutique Marriott hotel, a process that saw the firm not only orchestrating essential repairs but also masterfully designing the adaptive reuse conversion.

The result? A 113-room sanctum of luxury and art, the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery. Immerse yourself in a sensory experience, surrounded by captivating artworks in every corner. Elevating the culinary experience, the hotel features a celestial restaurant crafted by a Michelin-starred French Chef.

Recognizing the project's excellence, the Hampton Roads Association for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE) bestowed upon Glass Light Hotel & Gallery the prestigious "Juror's Choice Award" in 2020, their highest annual honor. Additionally, the hotel received an Excellence Award for "Best Renovation or Historic Renovation."

But the story doesn't end there. Speight Marshall Francis extended their expertise to the next phase of the project: "205 Granby Museum." This visionary project involves the conversion of the former Roxy Theater at 205 Granby Street into a public art gallery seamlessly connected to the hotel showcasing exquisite glass art from the Patricia and Douglas Perry collection.

In essence, the Glass Light Hotel & Gallery is more than a place to stay; it's a journey through time, a celebration of art, and a testament to the transformative power of A/E ingenuity.
