INIT North American Headquarters

The INIT Innovations in Transportation, Inc., U.S. Corporate Headquarters, located in Chesapeake, VA, represents a state-of-the-art facility blending office, laboratory, production, and warehouse functions. Completed in 2017, this 70,000 square foot building was designed and constructed to cater to the diverse needs of its employees, emphasizing a productive and collaborative work environment.

As the Structural Engineer of Record and Agent 1 Special Inspector, the project involved the construction of a new headquarters office and warehouse space. The building features a 45,000 square foot pre-engineered metal building (PEMB), incorporating a 17,800 square foot second-floor mezzanine. Its design utilizes conventional steel with a shallow foundation system, ensuring stability and durability.

The office and administration section, spanning 20,000 square feet, is designed to foster an engaging and dynamic work atmosphere. It features an open-office layout with high ceilings, bright, airy spaces, and a vibrant color scheme. Large break rooms, mobile workstations, and classroom-style meeting and training areas enhance opportunities for team collaboration and casual interactions. A central feature of this space is "The Hub," a comfortable lounge area with a kitchen and an adjoining outdoor patio, which has become a popular gathering spot for both office personnel and technical staff.

The building also includes a 30,000 square foot warehouse, equipped with four entrances for efficient access and logistics. This includes two at grade level and two with loading docks featuring dock levelers. Additionally, the lab and production area, occupying 20,000 square feet, are thoughtfully designed with locker rooms and offices for production managers. To support employee well-being, a fitness center is conveniently located on the ground floor, accessible to all staff.
