John B. Dey Elementary School Modernizations
Originally built in 1956, modernizations to John B. Dey Elementary School increased its useful life up to 50 years.
Speight Marshall Francis served as Structural Engineer of Record and Agent 1 Special Inspector for a complete school modernization which now provides John B. Dey Elementary students with a flexible, 21st-century learning environment including a spacious outdoor courtyard in the middle of the school. The existing 76,000 square foot school was renovated and 22,000 square feet of new construction was added including a new gymnasium. The library was transformed into a modern media center. A new geothermal heating and air conditioning system was installed. The $19M project also included site improvements necessary for the modernization and associated amenities. Designed to achieve LEED-certified status.
