Old Point National Bank Corporate Headquarters
Speight Marshall Francis (SMF) provided comprehensive structural engineering services for the five-story, 48,000 square foot corporate headquarters office building for Old Point National Bank.
Our team proudly served as the Structural Engineer of Record and Agent 1 Special Inspector, ensuring the structural integrity of the building met the highest standards. The steel-framed office building was designed with sustainability in mind and has achieved a LEED Silver rating, demonstrating SMF's commitment to eco-friendly design practices.
What makes this project even more unique is that Old Point National Bank took an unusual step of delaying construction by over a year to allow an archaeological excavation of the site. The downtown Hampton area had a long history, and numerous historical artifacts had been previously uncovered. The delay resulted in the discovery of nearly 1,000 artifacts dating back to the early 18th century, including pottery shards, three wells, and a cellar. This historical significance was accounted for in the design of the building, which was a combination of steel frame and architectural precast concrete.
Situated at the corner of Queens Way and Wine Street in the heart of historic downtown Hampton, the building features a penthouse-level retreat that highlights the city's cultural heritage. The corporate headquarters includes the bank branch office, executive offices, commercial lending, private banking, and administrative staff.
The first floor of the building is dedicated to traditional banking services for customers. The second through fourth floors contain Class A office space and a mailroom for Old Point National Bank's use. The fifth and sixth floors host corporate management offices, a boardroom, and training facilities, providing a state-of-the-art workspace for staff.
The scope of our work included value engineering, which ensured the project was completed within budget without sacrificing quality or design. With a completion date of 2014, the Old Point National Bank Corporate Headquarters stands as a symbol of SMF's professionalism and innovation in structural engineering, highlighting our firm's commitment to sustainable design practices and preserving the historical heritage of communities.
