Simonsdale Elementary
Simonsdale Elementary School holds the honor of being certified by USGBC as LEED Gold.
Served as Structural Engineer of Record and Special Inspector for a new one- and two-story LEED Gold certified elementary school building for Portsmouth Public Schools. Approximately 80,000 SF for nearly 700 persons. Work also included a single-story 1,267 square foot administration building and a 1,036 square foot concession building. The school is supported on reinforced concrete spread footings. Steel columns, beams, and open-web bar joists support floors and roofs. Concrete slab on grade and elevated concrete slab on metal deck. Metal deck, insulation, single-ply membrane roof, and vegetative "green" roof over Classroom wings and standing seam metal roof make up roofing. HVAC is provided by geothermal-based heat pump systems.
